Last evening as we drove to Marlys and Glen's condo anticipating the Kansas City Chiefs would beat the New England Patriots for playing rights at the 2019 Super Bowl (sob, sob, boo-hoo...the Chiefs were
so close!), the full moon hovered in the east over the scenic landscape. Watching the nail-biting football game together, we took breaks to step out onto the balcony to admire the large orb. When the football game concluded, we gathered our belongings and Mike's parents gave us a ride back to Home Port Marina. As we gazed up again, it was evident something was happening...there was no longer a full moon.
Last night there was a lunar eclipse and when we returned to Velsignet at 10 pm, we watched as the bright full moon became fully shaded by the earth.
Glen told us last evening that Mike's aunts, Pauline and Dorothy, in Red Lake Falls and Hallock, MN respectively, would most likely be watching for the eclipse. This morning our "other brother" Son Michael Pham in Sammamish, WA posted online some awesome photos of the event. It warms us to know that last evening the eyes of Aunt Dorothy and Aunt Pauline to the far north, Son Michael on the west coast, and Marlys and Glen and Mike and Brenda to the far south of the United States were awed by the sky's spectacular show. Our locations were so far apart and yet we were joined together through our amazing universe.

Mike took this photo from Marlys and Glen's balcony at their Orange Beach condo. |

We had an evening with appetizers, drinks, food and football.
This was taken at an obviously tense moment in the game
(which means, it was SOMETIME after the game's halftime). |
 |
When we got back home to Velsignet, we enjoyed watching the Earth's shadow sneak over the large lunar orb. |
 |
As the moon became more and more overshadowed, Mike was challenged to get a good photo. |
 |
When the eclipse was complete, Mike had a hard time capturing a photo with the desired clarity.
And so we took in the reddish moonlight held in the sky until we couldn't take the chilly air any longer! |

This was taken on our cruise to Bear Point Marina the other day.
This is Mike's dad, Glen, taking in the scenery from the flying bridge. |

The two of us at Home Port. This past Friday was a beautiful day with temps in the 60s and calm winds.
By Sunday, the winds were from the north and temps dropped. |

What great photos, Mike. We, too, watched the Blood Wolf moon and eclipse. When you say temps dropped, I have to giggle, though. I don't even know how far below zero it was here, but around -30! Heat wave now and fresh snow. I was thinking of you and our desire for full-moon snowshoeing on the lake.😁
ReplyDeleteDid you guys get the Nikon with the super zoom?
ReplyDeleteWe are currently using a camera Mike's dad is loaning us. It's a Nikon with a nice zoom...probably not a super zoom. So far, we are liking the photos it's giving us.
