Seattle-scape

We've left Velsignet at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, AL for the month of February.  We've planned for almost two years to meet our daughter, Allison, and her husband, Brent, and their 2 daughters, Iris and Rose in Maui and it's finally going to happen.  But first....Seattle!


Going "home" to Seattle means alot of things to us.  We continue to own and manage a truck washing business in the Puget Sound region.  We have lifelong friends we look forward to spending time with, including friends we met while living downtown Seattle, Mukilteo, and Mercer Island, friends we made in our neighborhoods, through Rotary, Church, and Community Bible Study.  While we moved from Washington State to return to Minnesota, we hold each one close to our hearts and it is a joy when we can reconnect.

Below are photos taken on our first visit to Seattle (I regret I'd not taken more).  I'll add more after our time on our return trip.

We feel so fortunate when we visit Seattle and experience the warm hospitality of the Summerfelts.

This is Team Todd and Brenda.  We don't take a loss too seriously as there's always another day!

We were also able to get together with Guy and Betty Falskow for a delicious lunch at their waterfront home at Park Shores.  Near or far, Guy and Brenda stay close friends.

Having business at the Mercer Island Wells Fargo Bank, we couldn't help but take a photo of the back of this new, beautiful, bright red Tesla in the parking lot....driven by a STUDENT DRIVER!  Only on Mercer Island!

Having spent time with the Summerfelts, the Lows, the Falskows, the Scotts, the Singhs, and the Spicers; attended our beloved Rotary Club of the University District, enjoyed church services at BCC on Greenlake and a play at the Rep, we departed Seattle under a blanket of heavy snow.  Thankfully, our air flight to Maui departed on time and
we arrived to Aloha Land as scheduled.

There has been no return to "normal" since getting off Velsignet and back into our Long Lake home near Bemidji MN.  On the contrary.  Life as we once knew it hasn't happened yet.  And who could imagine that as our  9-year-old granddaughter conducted her school studies from home would get to a state where she "is so DONE with Zoom?!" Since Velsignet (March 1), the pandemic of the Corona-19 virus began spreading across the country hitting cities like New York City and Seattle hardest.  The federal government and other countries issued international travel bans.  Stay-at-home orders and "social distancing measures" were issued by state Governors as well as mandatory closures of businesses and services that were deemed "unessential."  Other businesses were encouraged to allow employees to work from home.  Schools and universities and churches conducted online services and classes.  Zoom rose to become a popular meeting app for keeping groups and ...

Florida Fauna, Flora and Friends

Mike and Brenda are perplexed.  Cruising from Venice towards Fort Myers on the Gulf of Mexico on a clear calm day, a round "something" was floating atop the water.  Was it a piece of carpet?  What could it be?  As we slowly crept near the object, we discovered with pleasant surprise that it was a turtle.  A large turtle. Just there.  Floating.  Then, as if waking from a slumber, the turtle startled and looked up out of the water and took a gracefully descending dive (like turtles do).  But what kind of turtle was it? (Erica E...HELP!) Brenda remembers how its shapely domed shell was flared out almost like the brim of a hat (OR...was this an illusion created from the water?).  Mike saw the front flippers typical of sea turtles.  Its color was brownish.  Its size was BIG (Mike thinks at least 3 feet).  Was it a loggerhead?  A green sea turtle?  Kemps Ridley? The Great Great

Our sunrise this Monday morning.  We didn't truly appreciate the size of this Great Lake until actually moving on it.  Lake Michigan is the world's fifth largest lake overall (the world's largest fresh-water lake by surface area) and at its deepest, it measures more than 900 feet (our depth finder stopped reading at 723 feet deep...it reverted to our draft depth of 3.9'!).   Linda & Winn of MV "Time Takes Two" On Saturday afternoon, in the midst of a fierce game of “Kings Cribbage,” we heard a knock on our boat and received an “after-dinner glass of wine” invitation from our next dock Looper-boat neighbors.
