A staff guy from the Stock Island Marina Village knocked on the boat, "Are you the owners of the Subaru and trailer that's parked on the pier? We don't allow trailers on the pier and we're going to need you to move it."
This past week has us in "moving mode." We flew out of Key West last Thursday for Indianapolis and arrived back in Key West in our Subaru Outback and enclosed trailer on Sunday evening. By the end of today, we had the furniture swapped out, the guest bedroom in original order (twin bed was re-installed), and most of our personal belongings in boxes already loaded in the trailer or car. Tomorrow, Wednesday, we begin the process of washing down Velsignet and getting her ship-shape for her new owner, Ang (Angela) Lovin.
The closing of our boat sale is scheduled for Thursday, February 27th. Ang will arrive at the marina before noon. We will sign and notarize necessary documents and take care of the banking aspects. Mike and Ang will go through the engine, genset, air, water and sewage systems and Brenda will run through the oven and cooktop procedures. Together we will toast over a bottle of bubbly and bid the new owner (and her friends, Susan and ET) a good first night aboard (We will stay with Deb and John on "Saltaire").
We feel fortunate to have found a new owner for our Mainship 400. Overall the selling process without involving brokers has been a relatively smooth one and certainly a learning experience. Last week consisted of many emails between Ang and us regarding the moisture level of the boat's stringers. With some brainstorming and cooperation, we were able to conduct a test that put our minds at ease and move forward with greater confidence.

Steve and Kathy introduced us to "Little Beers." We've read about Little Beers in the AGLCA forum over the past year, but never had them. This is Steve carefully putting the finishing touch of "Little Beers" in the shooter glasses.

This is a Little Beer. Recipe: In a shooter glass, pour about 1 oz or more of Liquor 43. Using a spoon, carefully top with heavy whipping cream. The result: A yummy after dinner drink!

No need for tunnels to get us to the plane in comfort leaving Key West last Thursday. The tropical weather allowed for a comfortable walk from the small terminal to our plane.

The mess of packing up.

We swapped our swivel recliners out of the boat and replaced them with the boat's original sofa. Our bar stools from home were packed and the boat's original stools were put in.

Key West is the county seat for Monroe County and this is the courthouse.

In front of the Monroe County Courthouse in Key West is this stately Kapok Tree, also called the Ceilba tree or Silkcotton Tree. It was a sacred tree of the Mayan people who believed that souls of the dead climbed a mythical kapok whose branches reached into heaven.

We enjoyed some of the talent being performed on Mallory Square in Key West where we went to watch the sunset. |
